“Good view and pool”
The pool was great after being on the boat all day, and the room and staff were very nice. The drinking water in glass bottles and the big shampoo and soap dispensers were a nice sustainable. Not the cheapest place to stay in town but one of the nicest.

“A piece of heaven in Pak Beng”
This hotel was much better in person than in the pictures. We loved the architecture, the location, the decor, the food in the restaurant. Everything! We had dinner there instead of town because we liked the views and we were close to the room. We ordered one fixed menu and we also ordered a la carte. Both options were great! I would certainly come back!!!

“Lovely scenery ”
Simple accommodation with a lovely view if you manage to get an upstairs room. They need to trim the garden to open the view for down stair rooms. The pool appears to be at the neighbouring hotel so is quite a hike to access it. All prices in US dollars. Comfortable bed and room. Food was pretty good, deserts were yummy. I would eat here rather than search in town as the street looked a bit ordinary.

“Great place to stay in Pak Beng”
Stunning river views and luxury rooms. Food and drinks were delicious. We stopped on the slow boat to Luang Prabang. Shuttle picks you and drops you off at the boat. So easy and friendly.

“Excellent place to stay in Pakbeng ”
Great view from our balcony over the Mekong river. Staff, room, restaurant all excellent. Free tuktuk service from/ to boat. This lodge offers a true tropical travel experience!

“Stay more than one night”
If you are coming on the slow boat please do yourself a favor a stay more than one night, incredible views, delicious food, refreshing pool and you can visit the Mekong Elephant Park for half or full day tour. We loved our stay and highly recommend the Sanctuary in Pak Beng. We also stayed at the Sanctuary in Luang Prabang and were just as satisfied.

“Nice sunset from the restaurant”
We were given a room on the upper section of the hotel. This meant we were able to enjoy a lovely sunset from the restaurant. However it also meant we didn’t have easy access to the pool (you would have had to walk back down a steep hill) or local cafes etc so a bit of a captive audience! Room was fine and staff were helpful enough. Breakfast was limited.

“Misleading - no pool access”
This hotel would be fine except for one glaring problem - the hotel is lying about the facilities available. If you book the standard rooms you are in the main building and have access to the pool. However, if you book the more expensive deluxe rooms, you are in a totally different building with its own separate driveway from the main road and you have no way of getting to the main building. When we got there and said that we wanted to have a swim after a long day, the staff admitted to us that this was not possible. We even asked if someone could drive us in a tuk tuk or golf cart and they said no. If one of your group is staying in the standard rooms and another in the deluxe, good luck as you're not going to see each other until you check out and they drive everyone back to the river. Thankfully there’s a restaurant in the deluxe building that was good, but this is a necessity as there’s no way you can leave the building area on your own.

“Fine for overnight on the slow boat trip”
Room was okay, breakfast a bit small. Pool was a nice bonus. Someone in our group saw an elephant at the sanctuary across the river.

“Disappointed ”
The Sanctuary Lodge is an ok hotel but for the price we were expecting more. The room was very ordinary and the mattresses extremely hard. Only the balcony was nice. We didn’t care for the set menu and we went in town to eat dinner. We only had a beer at the bar and it was super expensive in US dollar. The breakfast wasn’t better, after some confusion we just had a coffee and a toast and left. We didn’t feel very welcome.

“Amazibg Location - Incredibly helpful staff”
I stayed for 2 nights on my way to Luang Prabang. The location is beautiful as are the grounds. Unfortunately I had a bad sciatica flare up. The staff here incredibly helpful and went to the pharmacy for me. One negative. As there are no phones in the rooms and I couldn't walk it was difficult to contact the staff. However once I did they took care of me and even packaged up breakfast for me to take on the boat to Luang Prabang (I took the Shompoo, was excellent).

“Wonderful ”
My only complaint is that I only stayed one night, I wish I could’ve stayed longer. The staff was great. The room was perfect in the sunset spectacular. They were able to accommodate my celiac disease and gluten-free dairy free diet with no problems at all! I would highly recommend The Sanctuary Lodge.

“Amazing resort - worth a longer stay”
The property is besutiful with a lot of facilities like a swimming pool and a Badminton field. The rooms are clean and pretty and I haven't slept in a cozy bed like they have for a long time in Asia. The hotel is connected to the Elephant Sanctuary and a free medical aid team And the staff here is amazing

“Perfect ”
The lodge and service are very good. You must go and see the Elephants in the sanctuary, they are kept in as close to natural environment as possible. Don't just stay the one night as its a wasted opportunity to visit whilst on the slow boat.

“Great location and views”
This hotel sits on a hill overlooking the Mekong. The views from our room and the dining hall are gorgeous. There’s a clean and good-sized pool to chill by. It’s an easy 10min walk to the main street. We’re loving our stay here.

Exceptional location with amazing view on the Mekong river. Manager self satisfied and french style. Rooms oldfashioned and not very confortable.

“All around amazing ”
We've stayed in a huge range of hostels, hotels, and resorts on our trip. This may have been the best room we've stayed at thus far. The views are amazing, the staff is super helpful, the beds are incredibly comfy, the room was luxurious, and the price was super affordable. I couldn't recommend it more!

“Very nice Lodge! ”
We got picked up by the slow boat Pier. We recieved a warm welcome by the friendly staff and had a great room with a good view on the Mekong. The dining area is simply beautiful with a great view. The Lodge is also involved in local social projects. Sadly we only had one night to stay...

Probably one of the best places in town to stay when doing the mekong river cruise. Stunning views of the river and comfortable rooms.

“Rooms need renovation”
Staff is kind and helpful, facilities are nice as well as the location but the rooms need definitely renovation. Our mattress were worn out and the bathroom seem to be from the 80s. A wonderful location and tremendous staff. We decided to have their fixed price menu in the evening. It was delicious - such a well balanced meal - enough for four - we ate for three (despite being only two of us) and there was still loads left. We had to leave early but they organised a take away breakfast for us. Oh - and we had the most delicious French wine, kept at the right temperature and very reasonably priced. Well worth the visit.

“Beautiful views ”
The hotel arrange collection from the pier for us. We hadn’t booked with the tour company so were able to order from the a la carte menu. Staff were all pleasant. I heard that the pool is a long walk from the hotel. Excellent rooms, very well appointed although the walls between are a little thin.

“Stunning vista over the Mekong and beyond”
En route to Luang Prabang, a 1 night stop over, picked up from pier and check in very smooth, our room, 208, offered a stunning view, unfortunately to late for sunset. Very comfortable bed. Great omelette for breakfast and a courtesy drop back to the boat.

“Best for 2 or more nights”
This is a beautiful hotel, but if you’re coming off the boat, you really won’t have time to fully enjoy it in 1 short evening. The staff is very kind and helpful, but very reduced due to few visitors as the country continues to recover from COVID. Recommend you schedule boat(s) to stay two days/nights minimum.

“Amazing breakfast, watching the elephants in the river”
The room was great, clean and the bed was comfortable. The pool was nice to cool off in at the end of the day. The grounds are well done with beautiful gardens. It's a short walk into town for dinner. Breakfast topped off the stay. It was amazing watching the elephants play in the river while we ate breakfast.

“A relaxing place to stay in a great location ”
Loved the setting, beautiful room with fantastic view. The communal areas are delightful and the pool was a bonus. We were a bit disappointed with the breakfast - poor choice for a hotel of this quality and not a patch on its sister hotel in Luang Prabang. I’d add that the bed wasn’t very firm , could do with replacing the mattress Despite these reservations it was a great place to stay.

Very beautiful hotel from outside with amazing views on the Mekong river but the bathroom should be renewed. It is very very old, the shower head was broken and there was a hole in the wall. The room should be also improved. Breakfast only aceptable.

“Amazing place!”
If I could give 100 stars, it still wouldn’t be enough! The sanctuary is a beautiful place overlooking the Mekong River and an elephant park where they come out to bathe every morning at 7 am. The suite rooms are clean, spacious and comfy with beautiful views, especially the sunsets. We had dinner at the restaurant and it was so delicious! We will miss this place!

“Great View”
In Pakbeng there isn't much choice in the upper end quality of accommodation. I had come in off the slow boat and was staying just one night (I suspect most people are doing this). I'm not into staying at hostels these days and so choices were limited. The Sanctuary I noted provided a complimentary tuk tuk pick up from the pier and so this was of value to me (travelling with a suitcase and a rucksack). Situated in a lovely spot overlooking the Mekong, the sunset view was impressive from the bar/dining area, and it was nice seeing elephants bathe opposite. My room was spacious (I'd been upgraded to a deluxe - not sure exactly what difference this made) but there were some elements that could be improved...picky things (no milk sachets, withered flowers on pillows, bifold doors too stiff and heavy, and lack of privacy on the balcony). Breakfast was literally a surprise as bits came out randomly; a menu card showing the set breakfast would allow guests to know what was offered.

“Stayed Extra Night as So Good”
We had booked for one night - and as soon as we arrived and sat on the terrace watching the dramatic sky prepare for sunset over the stunning views of the hills and river, we immediately decided to stay an extra night. That was such a great idea as the Sanctuary Pakbeng Lodge is such a comfortable and relaxing and well run hotel in a remarkable setting. A tip to travellers: Book your journey by slow boat in two parts, so you can stay a few days at the Sanctuary. Another highlight: You MUST visit the Sanctuary-run Mekong Elephant Park - on the opposite bank of the river. Here we walked with 3 gentle elephants and their mahouts & the wonderful park manager, Wendy, slowly through the forrest whilst they munched bamboo and we learnt interesting facts and stories about Lao elephants. This was a highlight of our trip in Laos as one of the few places in the world where one can see that the elephants are so well looked after and cared for and walk with the elephants untethered. “Perfect stay for a night or two”
Breakfast is a la carte, good variety. We had a room on the second floor with wonderful view from the balcony to the Mekong. Rooms of the standard category don’t have air con and television. Both you don’t need at this wonderful spot.
