We are 2 women from germany (30 years). The location ist very nice and there are rarely tourism. But one of the Host was very flirting and sit always near to us. It Was a little bit uncomfortable. Another Problem was, that the Host told us we can pay at the end everything with the kreditcard... but it doesnt work... with no card... but they told us, its our fault and card. Good location, but the one host...

it's a good place in front of the sea, when you come from the loudy Negombo it's a quiet place, people are nice and helpfull

“Bad beach and bad location”

There is barely a beach here. Just a very thin strip of sand, and at high tide there is nothing. What there is is strewn with litter. The ocean was also quite rough when I was there. And it was extremely windy. The hotel is also located next to a huge windmill, (taking advantage of the constant wind) so the noise from it is constant also. These windmills line the coast, and along with the power station and wharf spoil the view. There was also construction going on on-site and next door which added to the noise Dolphin tours weren't running when I was there ( late Sep/early Oct). Because of the isolated location you are more or less restricted to eating in the hotel, with relatively limited options that are expensive by Sri Lankan standards. My room was quite good - spacious and clean, with mosquito net and ceiling fan. The owner Harshan was friendly and helpful, but in my opinion he has chosen the wrong place for a hotel.

“Nice stay”

We had a nice stay at Dolphin Village with one of the nicest staff we had in Sri Lanka. The food which the made for us was great as well. We had one cabana right on the beach and could really relax.

“Amazing stay!”

I stayed here with a friend for 2 nights. We met Harshan (owner) the first night and he immediately went out of his way to help us out. He got a scooter rental for us. He had breakfast ready and waiting early in the morning cuz we were heading out early. And on the last day when we returned the scooter, he gave us a ride for free to another hotel (since his was full that night even though we wanted to extend). He is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. The Sri Lankan breakfast is huge portions. The food pricing is very fair. The location is right on the beach. If you are going for kitesurfing you are about 20km South of the lagoon so will need to rent a scooter or pay for tuc tucs. There are chairs and hammocks for relaxing. A nice breeze is constantly blowing keeping the rooms cool. Good mosquito nets. Highly recommend Dolphin Village. Thanks Harshan!

“Owner is so nice !”

The owner was so Nice! He actually gave our room away. Normally i would not be happy at all but otherwise a family would be split up with a handicapt person. He had a great solution, we stayed in a beachresort only 500meters walking distance on the beach. This was owned by a friend of his. We still saw him every day, asking of everything was okay and that he was very sorry. He still made our stay really pleasant. I would still recommend dolphin village. The food was great and his place was relaxing. The owner will do everything for you to make your stay a pleasant experience and not just because he made a misstake. He really has a big heart.

“such a relaxing spot”

Firstly we were upgraded, so that is awesome. The breeze coming in through the door and window from the ocean was lovely. We really enjoyed the little veranda, and the doggy (Blackie) that kept us company all the time. The bathroom was almost as big as the bedroom, and had a great broom/mop to sweep all the water into the drain. The staff were very sweet, but with limited english, although the owner called us twice during our stay to check that everything was ok. The food was also very good, esp the rice & curry. Only negative wad that the beach was not very nice, lots of fishing boats parked right there, and litter all over the beach. The sea is also very rough here, so not nice for swimming.

“Lovely Place”

The room condition is fare and the hotel owner is really nice as well as helpful. The hotel is really quiets and have a lovely dog. But it's located in the jungle and it's hard to buy anything nearby so I recommend to buy all the things in Puttalam. Kalpitiya is a totally different area compare to Bentota. I would like to go there again

“Cannot recommend enough! ”

With mixed reviews of Kalpitiya, my boyfriend and I decided we would brave it and stay here for two nights. That is our only regret - that we only had two nights. Dolphin Village is a tranquil, back to basics setting right on the beach. You have your own beach hut to sleep in with a shower and toilet...it is basic but has everything you need, and what it lacks in luxury, Harshan, the owner, makes up for as the most amazing host. He organised a taxi from the airport and onwards to our next destination. He helped us negotiate our dolphin watching tour so that we didn't get over charged. We had the pleasure of meeting some of his friends who came for lunch at Dolphin Village and invited us to eat, drink local Brandy and sing the afternoon away with them. We played volleyball with his staff into the sunset and one night he took us out with his friends to see a Sri Lankan concert. It was the best possible start we could have asked for to our two weeks in Sri Lanka. I hope one day we can return before Kalpitiya becomes a tourist trap. I fully recommend anyone who wants to escape real life for a bit to stay with Harshan at Dolphin Village. Thank you Harshan!

This is real value for money place in this area. Coupled with good hospitable host and staff.

“Wonderful location”

Wonderful stay in harmony with the other guests at the big table former like a horseshoe. The nearby windmill and the squirrels at the roof made some noise throughout the nights. The host himself was extremely kind and helpful and very good at English, but the young guys might have been better. The dolphin tour was fantastic. We had never seen that many dolphind before.

Dolphin Village is run by a very friendly owner and his staff, who are always ready to accommodate your needs. The location is a bit remote, but very beautifully located right on the beach. It has a very nice garden, full of palmtrees (from which they harvest fresh coconut which is served two minutes later!) that has direct beach access. Daily you can see the local fishermen work together as a big team and catch their fish. This is not to be missed! The rooms are basic, but suffice. The location is a bit remote, but it really gives you the ultimate holiday feeling and relaxation as a result. There are not that many restaurants nearby, but the talented chef is always able to prepare a nice and excellent dish. Good spot for some dolphin watching as well. Note: there are windmills present throughout Alankuda beach, these can make noise sometimes, but this noise easily disappears in the background of the crashing waves.

Really enjoyed our two nights here. Good location, clean rooms, good wifi, lovely food - we always ordered our dinners around 4pm so didn't have any issues with food taking a long time to arrive. Staff are very helpful.

“The people make the difference”

Wether an experience in a hotel is just OK or fabulous, depends greatly on the owner and the staff. Harshan is a very nice guy who does almost everything to make your stay comfortable. It's a nice place where you will meet other travelers. Food is also great.

“eher schwierig”

die lage am strand ist schon ok, allerdings sieht man auf den fotos nicht, das unmittelbar daneben lauter windräder stehen, die doch mächtig lärm machen. Die unterkunft ist sehr einfach gehalten. leider stimmen die angaben, so z.b. aircondition nicht. Für eine bessere Bewertung ist noch viel platz nach oben

The family was super friendly and accommodated all our wishes. It is directly located at the beach. There’s just not much else around it, therefore a great place to relax. We were the only guests in the area due to low season - would definitely come back when it’s a busier time.
