Pro: location, cheap (9 euro), free water refills Cons: not friendly staff, no wifi in the room, very uncomfortable bed, not dirty but not clean either, holes in the duvet, tour guide changed price after we booked. Overall it's not a place you really want to stay, but i think it's hard to find better in Phonsavan

I have stayed at this hotel several times and this time was able to spend a full month and get to experience the Hmong New Year festivities. The hotel complimented my experience - its central location, walking distance to market, restaurants, short ride to airport and generally a clean and inviting space. Some of the reviews here don't seem to see the positive. Laos in winter is kind of cold, yes, but the comforters provided are large and fluffy and suitable. The bathroom water was hot (if you didn't want the ultimate pressure) - the room was cleaned every day by friendly staff, even after I would track in the dust of the day just after they had mopped the hallways. Everyone smiled and the owner certainly speaks fluent English and will accommodate in any way possible. I consider this hotel a "find" and will stay there again this season on my travels in Laos.

Basic accomodation very reasonably priced. I happen to love the firm mattresses so prevalent in SE Asia, so no problem there; a typical American might find them hard. This is my second stay at Namchai, and I'd book again. The WiFi can be iffy. I tethered my laptop to a Lao Telecom phone when that was an issue, which was no often this time. AC works; bathroom is typical for the area (spoiled Americans hate it), worked fine and was clean.

Phonsavanh is not a place to stay eternally so for 1/2 nights the accomodation does not have to be special. And this is what Namchai GH serves. We had a nice and clean room with a good bathroom and bed. The WiFi does not work in the rooms so you have to go to the ground floor for going online. The owner offers a pick-up service which is nice and offers to boom some tours. Staff helps if help is needed and you can fill up your water bottles or drink coffee all day. Recommended for a short stay on the small town!

The rooms in the main buildings are good. But the rooms in the adjacent building have some problems, the wifi signal is too weak, some of the rooms have stuffed drain system in their bathrooms.

Strategy location, near to minivan station which located inside market, bus depart to Vientiane also can started from here. MAG & UXO within 100m. Owner are friendly. Water dispenser place outside 1st building, with coffee and hot water, accessible plug point (very helpful if you leaving at night), 1unit toilet outside building. Room are big and clean, but sound proof are poor. Hot water is working fine, but the weather just too cool (sometime), cold inside this unseal room.

A good hideout in the cold and dusty Phonsavan. Make sure to bring warm clothes because there are no heaters and the night can get very cold! I was placed in a room next to a chicken coop and had to listen to roosters crow for the whole night. Yes, I know it's Laos, but I would rather have a good sleep before going to see the vast Plain of Jars.

I think agoda.com has problem liaise with the guesthouse owner because on the day we arrived the owner told us that he did not have our booking at all. Luckily enough he has a new guesthouse next to Namchai so he could get us some rooms. I'm afraid that it is a bit risky to book this guesthouse with agoda. However, i would say the new guesthouse is a decent one even though it is quite basic. Fair enough because it is cheap. Bed is very comfy and blanket is thick enough to keep us warm in cold night. Free flow of hot drinks eg. coffee & tea is available too.

I have stayed in worse places. I kept telling myself this as I tried to look on the bright side. As we arrived and checked out the room all appeared well. Another massive bed, fresh bedding and a freshly hosed down bathroom. Standard, right? Turns out the sheets were so fresh they were still damp, the bathroom had been hosed down but not cleaned I don't think, the shower was less than tepid, no fan or air con just an extractor fan and the ventilation was to become an issue on account of our room reeking of mould and urine. We ended up leaving the door open as long as possible until we went to bed and then lighting a mosquito ring like incense to get rid of the smell. There was no air circulation at all. The bed sheets had the usual dubious stains I've come to know and despise whilst holidaying in budget accommodation so I was glad I bought my sleeping bag liner (I highly recommend investing in one of these, it may not actually protect you from bugs and germs but you feel slightly less grubby). The staff seemed cheerful and friendly but we barely saw them. This was a bit annoying at night when I noticed at 10pm they hadn't replaced my towel when cleaning the room so I had to share my partner's. I know it's not the grossest thing ever but it still wasn't the best. I'm sure there are better rooms but ours and our friend's were both stinky. Don't get me started on the confused cockerel. The poor thing was right outside our window and was in a covered hutch type thing so from about 4am he was cock-a-doodle-dooing like it was sunrise. Only it wasn't sunrise, it was the middle of the night. We stayed here 2 nights and I am amazed the cock survived that time. I have stayed in worse rooms but I don't think I'd stay here again.

The hotel is clean and the bed comfortable, large room with coffee making facilities down stairs. The owner leaves you alone which is ok, but will help with information if you need it. It is a short walk to all the places to eat, information on UXO and where not to wander. The Nice guest house have a motorbike hire place across the road, no hassles or scams, manual at 80,000 kip and automatics at 100,000 kip a day. You can see jar set one, climb the 1000 steps to the secret tunnel, and visit the Buddha cave all in a day. There are lots of ATM's here, even though some reviews say they do not work they do, there are more here than some towns in the U.K.

Hong sized rooms with TV, free soap, toilet roll and water. Free tea and coffee available in lobby. Rooms were cleaned everyday and toiletries / water replenished. Only drawback was due to the rooms having high ceilings and wooden floors the sound travels and therefore if somebody is having a conversation it sounds like an argument!

Namchai Guesthouse is within walking distance of several restaurants, bars and convenience stores, though not placed in the main street. It had a fridge, and the bathroom was nice. It was cleaned every day. The bed was comfortable. The Wi-Fi didn't work in the room, but worked fine in the lobby. The staff was friendly - especially the driver, who picked me up at the bus station - without my anticipation. He is also good for arranging tours, where he acts as a guide, who knows his stuff - and speaks a VERY good English.

“Disorganised ”
Basic room but not very clean. Owner had ‘forgotten’ our booking on arrival. Luckily we had a Lao guide with us who could translate the conversation. The next day, our guide translated that the owner wanted us to pay again as he no longer dealt with Agoda. Thus followed calls and emails to Agoda who did sort it but it ruined the time in Phonsavan. No apology or acknowledgement of mix up on check out. To be honest, glad to leave.
