“This hotel could have been done better”

Horizontal could have done much better. The location is good, the hotel which I assume when was just built was good but the conditions got worn out.

“Great place to stay”

Horizontal was excellent. There were two negatives that we encountered, the first being that the hotel management had double booked. We had three, of the five, villas booked for a five night stay, but on the day we arrived there were only two available, so an extra single bed was placed in one of the rooms to see us through the night. To mitigate, the management stated that they would refund the cost of the room, but in the end they only provided me with a partial refund. Not a huge deal, considering we were still able to accommodate all members, but it wasn't a great start to our stay. Complimentary food or drinks would have satisfied the difference, but to be fair, we didn't ask, so we didn't get. The other disappointment was that the clear focus and priority for the hotel management was the running of the bar/restaurant, rather than the accommodation side of things. Note that the bar is definitely one of the most popular on the island, but it meant that when there was a need for staff assistance it was an effort to obtain. Despite this, the villas were fantastic. Spacious, well appointed, private, and comfortable. The island was busy, so it was nice to escape to the peace and quiet of the villas. Our three villas were side-by-side, and connected by adjoining doors, so we essentially had a three-bedroom mega villa with three lounge rooms and three spas; very snazzy. The decor of Horizontal is funky, and the proximity and popularity of the bar meant that a sunset drink was a stones throw. The downside, due to bar popularity, is that residents are treated like patrons who are just passing through; it might seem like a pet peeve, but when your group constitutes 60% of the hotels residency for the week, it would be nice to have an associated privilege of access to hotel amenities. These are the only negatives that I could think of; everything else was great; clean, comfortable, great location, good music, and happy staff. Overall, it was a really nice place to stay.

Staying at Horizontal was excellent. Recommend for singles and couples. The food out of the restaurant was fine. Location great, overall an 8/10

Overall very nice. The air conditioners didn't work so well which was disappointing given the amount of money paid per room. They installed a new unit for us however it was still quite hot in the room.

“Amazing room”

Our stay there was perfect. The only negative thing about it was that we struggled to get things done by the staff. 1st - I waited 10 days for them to reply to an email. 2nd - we were basically ignored when we ordered a hookah and when it came it was horribly lit and they had to do it again. We waited 30 min for them to just bring it for us the first time. We had a problem with our tv, but no one ever came to fix it or ever heard from them about it again. Other than the bad service, this place was really amazing to stay at.

“Simple but Amazing.”

Horizontal is placed at the backpackers paradise of Gili Trawangan. It is a little troublesome to get to Gili Trawangan itself (local boat) but once there, the sparkling clear waters will just take your breath away. Trawangan is a small island, so there is no vehicles. You either walk, cycle or ride a horse cart, so its very fortunate that Horizontal Hotel is within walking distance (approximately 200m) from the harbor. The room is very very very spacious! The private jacuzzi and huge lounge area makes me want to stay in half the time. However, there was a tiny problem with the air conditioner. You can barely feel it in the day. I'm not sure if its the aircon problem or the weather is just too crazy hot, but the sea breeze is what i relied on to keep cool. In the night, it gets a bit cooler but not much. Another problem was the shower. Theres only crazy hot water or cold tap water. But that wasn't much of a big deal. Another thing was the towels. There were stains on the white towels. We solved it by asking for a beach towel which was a brown in color. Or you can bring your own. The last problem was the sliding doors. Quite heavy for us girls, but we didn't really think much about it. Wifi is only available in the lobby area. All in all, don't have very high expectation of Horizontal. It has your basic necessities and thats all you really need in trawangan. I honestly think its one of the nicer hotels compared to the others. I would definitely return to Horizontal.

Very recommendable. The private courtyard with plunge pool is alluring and the comfortable lounge you can definitely sloth out and watch a movie or two. All the comforts of home with very comfortable big bed and clean bathroom.

“Mid range hotel”

Good location but nothing is far on Gilli T. First impressions were an above average hotel for a small island however bed was extremely uncomfortable and cleanliness (including linen) was questionable. Very spacious villas but would not recommend. Be aware this hotel is right next door to a very large mosque so be prepared to be woken very early at 4am. Staff were friendly and accommodating.

“Great value and features”

After moving from some not so nice budget accomodation, it was great to spend my last 6 days in Gili Trawanagan at Horizontal. The villas are surprisingly big, with separate entertaining/sun lounge area, dining table, lounge room, and then the bedroom which has an adjoined bathroom ensuite that is semi outdoors with a stone garden. I was amazed when I first walked in at how big it is, and the great attention the theme and detail with some of the homewares. I had an issue with my room on the first night but the manager was very accomodating the next day and resolved my issue very fairly. The staff throughout the stay were always smiling and very friendly, and were keen to chat about how I was going, and what I was up to that day and suggesting things to do on the island. The restaraunt is very good, and there are lounges down on the beach where you can sip cocktails or Bintang all day, while relaxing in the sun...The hotel is very centrally located. The only drawback with the location is the proximity to the very noisy Mosque that has a PA system that plays prayers every few hours. The wifi was pretty much non operational while I was there. In the villas up the back there is no signal, but even in the restaraunt area, it would rarely connect. But then again, who needs WIFI when you are on holiday... go for a swim, dive, snorkel, sunbake, read a book ..If you want WIFI goto Kuta...

“Great staff and huge rooms”

The rooms are outrageously huge. Separate living room, bedroom, toilet, and an outdoor area with a jacuzzi. Staff were attentive. Just make sure to use insect repellant as there are mosquitoes all over the place as the "entrance" area is out in the open. Close the doors to the bedroom if you want the aircon to work.

“Fantastic room and a very nice style on the hotel”

The room was fantastic. It exceeded what I expected from a hotel on Gili Trawangan in this price class. The staff was very friendly and attentive and I really enjoyed my stay. The biggest drawback was the very poor internet connectivity at the hotel.

“superb beach front, relaxing”

hotel was on one of the best parts of the beach, great place to chill out and enjoy the Gilis sunshine. Staff where brilliant, Mangagement was friendly and approachable. Had two wonderful days enjoying the location and the atmosphere. Caught the fast boats from bali, and had good crossing both ways. totally glad i made the trip to the Gilis.

“Awesome Villa”

My friends and I had booked the hotel as it had a spacious living room. It indeed lived up to our expectations. We really enjoyed our stay at the Horizontal Hotel. Staff was very friendly and was very accommodating to our request. 3 villas connected to each other for our easy access. The room was comfortable with an open concept bathroom. Beach was right in front of the hotel where the restaurant is and food and drinks served on the beach. Such heaven!
