I have stayed in this hotel 4 or 5 times. When I stayed in May this year it had gone down hill. My most resent visit Aug/Sept 16 it was even worse. The restaurant is now closed except for breakfast. One cannot buy a cup of coffee or even a bottle of water after 10 am. For breakfast there is no butter only margarine: the bread was stale even at 7 am when breakfast started: the coffee indescribable. I was told that the restaurant is unlikely to reopen. There is no bar any more. The first two nights my room was not cleaned except for the rubbish bin being emptied and the bed was not made. My water glass was never washed the whole time I was there. On arrival the bathroom glass was dirty. The air conditioning never worked. There was a dead fly on the window sile which was still there when I left: the room had never been dusted or hovered. The shower base was badly cracked and in-hygienic and the floor tiles cracked. The phone is blocked and one cannot make out going calls. This was confirmed by reception who allowed me to use the desk phone after some difficulty - for a local call. They do not take messages but put one through if one is in the room. I shall never use this hotel again.

The hotel is good enough if you catch nice offer. It has everything you need to spend a night (as all the rest of time I was walking in the city). The only thing I was upset - absence of soap in the room and slow interntet connection.

I visit Budapest regularly to visit my dentist and have stayed at the Eban at least three times before. Positive Points My room had been refurbished but the shower head was not fitted correctly and flooded the bathroom. Wifi is now available in all the bedrooms and was very good. Negative points My room was only cleaned once [out 3]. The breakfast was awful. Only marg [not butter said the waitress] No jam or marmalade. I only found out that I could order eggs on the last morning. My wife on phoning found the receptionists difficult to deal with. Unusually for Hungary most of the staff spoke little English. The evening meal has always been expensive and of poor quality. On this trip I noticed that a group [Hungarians] who had an inclusive deal left most of their main meal. I always eat at a very good bistro across the road. after that first night I found that this group eat at the same bistro even though they had to pay for it. Finally I would point out that my dentist has partnership agreements with various hotels. The Eban was one of them for some years. However the hotel has now been removed from their system
